Dear Student,
The Case study method is a very good way to help improve your outlook on a particular subject, yes you can get this knowledge from reading about it in a book but when you look at the real world scenario that you can find in cases it really puts what you learned in to play. I takes what you are being taught and puts it in to real world scenarios and let you see where you will eventually use it in the really world. Just like in high school sitting in biology or chemistry class wondering when you will ever use it again. Plus it give you a sense of a real scenario not just one someone made up in a book.
The way that cases can be analyzed are all different depending on the individual. When i am analyzing a case i usually briefly skim over the case to get a feel for it in its entirety then i will jot down a short outline (depending on the length of the case a one page or two page case this isn't really practical) then i will dig in to the case. Reread it and being to pull out the key elements and depending on what you are reading the case for or what you are using it for will determine what you are to take out of the case. Pull the relevant information out and then at the end of that i usually put a couple of sentences to a paragraph about how i felt about the case. Was it Helpful? Written well? Was the information and conclusions relevant? etc.
Analyzing a case is not hard it just takes a little work but in the end you will come up with some very interesting evidence found in cases for any subject.
