Assignment #2
By 10:00 AM on the day of our second class meeting (Tuesday, September 11), write a 2 paragraph letter to a classmate who has never been exposed to the case study method. Tell him or her about your experience in another class that used this method. Identify the steps you go through to analyze a case. Label your entry: CASE STUDY METHOD- YOUR NAME.

When I do have to read a case study I use a three step method. This helps me keep my foucus and stay on the point of the case study.
The first thing I do is read the article or case from top to bottom, making sure you try to find the point and conclusion of the case.
The second thing I do is again go through the case with a high lighter. This way when I find important info or a comment I want to respond to. I will also make notes so that I will remember how I want to respond when I write my response for the case.
Then I finally write a rough draft response to the article. Remebering to look at my notes and respond the way I think is the most appropriate way. I use the article to refer too, to make sure that I dont loose site of the focus of the case.
Finally I look over the respose making sure that i answered the case with the proper response.
Case Study Method- Joe Boulanger
The whole point of reading a case study is to figure out what the problem is, and then finding a solution to that problem. Once you have read through the whole case study and have identified what it is about, case studies are extremely easy.
Whether the case study is looking for an opinion or a factual solution they are all pretty much the same. Over my college career I have found that case studies are a great way to learn about important ideas, and to become involved with that particular case. It's also a great way to express your opinion on certain issues.
When I have to complete a case study the first thing I do is read through the case quickly to pick up on some key points. Then next I read through the case thoroughly to figure out the problem. When I find the problem I usually underline or highlight it.
Next I brainstorm a solution to the case. After brainstorming I began to write my solution to the case. Finally I proofread my response to make sure it covers all main points, problems and solution.
Case Study Method-Jason Grier
When doing a case study, skim read the case and get the basic idea of it. After that, I look at the question or questions that are trying to be solved. After I have a good idea of what the questions are, I go back and read the case and try to answer the questions in my head while reading it. When I am done reading the case, I write down quick notes so the important concepts of the case are clear and understood.
With those notes I go back to the questions and see if they relate to them in any way. If they do, I put together a thourough answer and if it needs some work, I go back to the reading and find the neccessary notes that I am looking for. After I have the notes and answers put together I finalize the answers by re-reading what I have written to make sure that I answered the questions appropriatly. That is how I do my case studies.
Case Study Method- Jason Shaker
My method towards doing a case study is pretty simple, I try to make it as easy as possible so that I can get all of the key points together. First I will read the case study picking out key words or phrases, next I will usually look over all the my highlighted words and phrases and make sure I have all of the important information I need to answer the questions in the study. After I have all my information I go in and answer all of the questions and come to my conclussion.
I have used these methods in the past when doing case studies and my way of doing it has always provided me with enough information and answers that I needed to complete the task.
Case Study Method- Pete Wilson
First I read the case study very closely. Then I use a high lighter to highlight any important facts in that case study. Then I usually take those highlighted facts and respond to them usually by a quick brainstorm. Then I write a rough draft just to get my ideas onto paper.
After the rough draft I go back and make any corrections I think are necessary. I use the actual case as a tool in order for the response to have actual facts about the case. Finally, I give one more look at it to make sure I answered everything to the best of my ability.
Case Study Method-Jeff Scott
First I read the case study over and highlight the important facts inside the case. I then begin to take all the highlighted areas of the case and try to figure out a solution for the case study. Once I figure out a the appropriate solution i write a thorough answer for my solution.
After I have written my response for the case study I read it over to make sure i didnt forget anything. If I did I make the corrections before my case study is finalized.

To the students,
When it comes to dealing with case studies, my experience is limited, but my understanding has greatly improved with the real life circumstances they often entail. A case study usually starts off with a brief history and background of a said company. These grassroots’ details regarding the firm birth and inspiration may be important in figuring out the answer to future problems. What a company stands for and its values can ensure future success, by relying on what made them successful in the first place. Even with changing markets, and companies changing with the times, there is more often than not value to what made the company successful to begin with.
There are a few different ways a case study can be analyzed depending on the information desired. One way that I have dealt with case studies in the past is the S.W.O.T. analysis method. SWOT stands for strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. This basis of information is a crucial element when attempting to understand a case study. This is also a good basis for understanding a problem, and finding a solution. Depending on the situation of the company and the information that needs to be processed, a solid base of knowledge is crucial for anyone who is analyzing a case study.
