Question #1 Lindsy Girard - 3M
3M established a new set of environmental goals in 2005, that are extending through 2010. Already since this was established, they have reduced volatile organic air emissions by 66 percent, toxic releases inventory by 72 percent and waste bye 33 percent. Also they are improving their energy efficiency. 3M has reduced energy use by 35 percent. In 2006 they have achieved an annual energy savings of $25 million. 3M has always been very environmentally aware but has made a lot of changes to make everything better. They made these changes to take environmental, health, and safety into account at every stage of a products development.

Question #2&3 Karli Mae Ferris- 3M
Question #2
It was announce on November 15, 2007 that 3M aquired Aearo Technologies Inc. A Global Leader in Personal Protection Equipment. "Aearo will significantly expand 3M’s occupational health and environmental safety platform by adding hearing protection as well as eyewear and fall protection product lines to 3M’s existing full-line of respiratory products. It provides a broad platform for accelerated growth. This acquisition enables 3M to provide industrial, military and construction customers as well as consumers with a more complete personal protection solution." This strategy makes perfect sense to me because companies looking for personal protection equipment are especially looking for eye and hearing safety equiment as well as the other products 3M already offers. This should increase their revenues from selling protection equipment greatly.
Question #3
November 1, 2007, 3M joined the Clinton Climate Initiative's (CCI) landmark global procurement agreement "to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by making energy savings technologies affordable and accessible to cities around the world. Under the agreement, 3M will sell its energy-saving window film to 40 of the world’s largest cities at greater volumes and reduced costs, helping city buildings cut back on the energy they consume and associated carbon dioxide emissions." The rational behind this is to be more enviromentally friendly and give the company a good repuation for helping countries to afford these energy saving window film. This strategy makes sense to me because with a better reputation they will hopefully earn more customers who care greatly about the enviroment and produce more revenues for 3M.
