Leadership self-assessment- Jenn Omasta

Chapter one states 6 strategic leadership characteristics; vision, eloquence, and consistency, commitment, being well informed, willing to delegate and empower, the astute use of power, and emotional intelligence. Out of all of these characteristics I feel that I am strongest in commitment. Commitment is shown through vision, strategy by actions and words, and are often lead by example. I feel that I show commitment through the leadership roles I have both on and off campus. I have always pursed my education in business through clubs such as S.I.F.E and SBA. In SBA I am the chair, which is the position who helps delegate the meetings and keep the team together and communicated between the team and the client. I have also participated in 4 internships, 3 being for the same company. Each summer I worked at my internship I showed commitment to the projects I was working on and therefore gained a raise every year I worked there.

One of the characteristics that I feel I am weak in is the astute use of power, which is to use one's skill and attempt to build consensus for their ideas rather than using their authority to force ideas through; they act as members or democratic leaders of a coalition rather than dictators. I feel that I am weak in this area because I haven't developed the skills well enough to lead others in this form. I feel that I need to work on becoming as stronger leader not as a dictator but to help others push their ideas with out forcing it out of them. For example, during group meetings or practices I need to help out my teammates more than dictate to them how to do things, etc.

I believe that you would be a great leader because you have had such a wide variety of experience in leadership in the past. Just from your short post and other classes that I have had with you I know that you are one who is always on top of their work and will push group members to work hard. I also like that you realize your weakness and realize that it is something that you can and need to work on. When you state that you “need to help out your teammates more than dictate to them how to do things” it shows a real maturity that you realize your weakness and also realize how you can fix it. I would be fully in your support as a leader.

I would liek to see you as a leader because you would be able to commit. Most people our age have a hard to sticking to what they said because of the fear of not being liked. this is a good skill and shows a great deal of maturity.

Already completing 4 internships obviously has given you the learning experience in becoming a great leader. Your commitment is also another characteristic that puts you well on your way. Your weakness can be looked at in a positive way as well. Showing dictatorship may be needed in some leadership situations to show that you need jobs completed and are not happy that it is not being done. I support you as a leader.

I think you would make a great leader because you although you are a very committed person you have a great ability of finding information. From past experiences your one of the people i can always count on to show me the right direction. I think that makes a great leader because it shows that you have full knowledge of a subject wheather its large or small. I would chose you the leader of any group I were in.

A leader must possess the finest qualities, and not only do you have one strength but many. Working with Jen on the small business advisory group, it really showed her dedication and commitment. The bottom line is a leader must make sure the job gets done, and I know for a fact a job would get done with Jen as the leader. Not only do four internships show dedication and commitment, it shows Jen striving for as many opportunities and experiences she can get. The weakness given in her blog shows an accountability of projects in her past, and I think her analyzing and deciding how to fine tune her work as a leader is very admirable. I am fully supportive of Jen as a leader.

I am is support for Jenn as a leader because she is always organized and dedicated with whatever project or group she is working in. Working in her group last year for Global Economy was a great experience and I would gladly do it again.
